Research Methods and Statistics


This course introduces students to the theory and practice of carrying out both quantitative and qualitative research with primary emphasis on the social sciences. It enables students to identify the various forms and designs of social research, how to identify researchable problems, conduct literature review, define a population, obtain samples for research, design data collection instruments, and how to collect, manage, analyse and interpret data. Students will obtain basic skills and techniques on how to analyse data using basic statistics including mean, median, mode, range, variance, standard deviation, ANOVA, T-test, and Chi-square. How to write and present social research reports will also be treated.
