Animal Production and Management Systems


The course is designed to familiarize students with breeds, distribution, characteristic features and roles of poultry, swine, sheep, goats, beef and dairy cattle. Students are introduced to prevailing livestock production systems as an integrated unit and the factors such as climate, religious and socio-cultural values and beliefs that determine the choice and management of these systems. It highlights the characteristics of the extensive and intensive animal production systems and their major challenges and/or opportunities in Ghana.
